4 courses, 3 topics, 2 days, 1 goal: Empowering students to navigate academic literature with confidence

On 8 and 9 October 2025, the LIT Days kick off – the event for all first-year students and for everyone who wants to refresh their skills before starting their thesis! The program features four selected training sessions, ideal for preparing for academic work during your studies. The focus is on the following key questions:

  • How do I find relevant literature and information?
  • How do I cite sources correctly?
  • And how do I organize my references professionally so I can keep track?

LIT Days | 8 + 9 October 2025

On Day 1, the course language will be German, and on Day 2, the same program will be offered in English.

8:00 – 10:00, Literature Research Basics – Finding Relevant Books and Journals

Course Content:

  • Searching for books and journals in the OPAC
  • Accessing online media with eAccess
  • Searching for electronic journals in the EZB
  • Finding literature with AI

10:30 – 12:30, Literature Research Advanced – Finding Relevant Scientific Papers in Databases

Course Content:

  • Selecting appropriate literature databases
  • Developing a research strategy
  • Finding papers in literature databases
  • Obtaining full texts: online access, dokumenTUM, interlibrary loan

13:30 – 15:30, Citation Essentials – Referencing Sources and Citations with Confidence

Course Content:

  • Understanding the fundamentals of citation
  • Creating in-text citations and reference lists
  • Focus topics to choose from: e.g., citing images, ChatGPT, tables, diagrams, interviews, standards, research data, self-citations

16:00 – 18:00, Zotero Basics – Reference Management and Knowledge Organization

Course content:

  • Adding references to Zotero
  • Organizing collected references
  • Citing references in Word
  • Changing citation styles

You can attend all four webinars or just book individual ones. Participation is free of charge.
