Terms of Use: Lockers

The German version of this document is the only legally binding version. This English translation is for your convenience only.

These terms of use apply to the lockers in the branch libraries of the TUM University Library.

  1. The provision of lockers is a voluntary service offered by the University Library. Use is free of charge. There is no entitlement to the provision of a locker.
  2. Lockers are available for use by registered library users.
  3. The right to use a locker is not transferable.
  4. Locker keys are issued at the circulation desks. The locker will be booked to the borrower's library account. Reservations for lockers can be made through the circulation desk staff. Passing the locker key on to third parties is not permitted.
  5. The loan period is two weeks. The reservation/loan period may be adjusted unilaterally by the TUM University Library for good cause (e.g. urgent building measures) or in the event of non-compliance with these terms of use. The user will be duly informed accordingly.
  6. If a locker is being used in a branch library, no further lockers can be reserved in that same branch library. Additional reservations in other branch libraries are possible.
  7. Lockers must be handled with care and protected from damage and soiling. Before taking possession, the user must check that the locker is in good condition.
  8. In the event of a malfunction of the locking mechanism, library staff must be notified. Unauthorized interventions are prohibited. Costs for damage caused by improper use must be reimbursed by the person who caused the damage.
  9. Perishable food and hazardous substances or items may not be stored in lockers.
  10. The key must be returned to the circulation desk no later than the day the loan period expires.
  11. If the loan period is exceeded, library staff will forcibly open and clear the locker. Removed items will be treated as lost property and stored temporarily in accordance with the German Civil Code (BGB §§ 978 ff.). Food will be disposed of immediately without the right to reimbursement. Media borrowed from the University Library's holdings will be revoked. Any media belonging to other libraries will be returned to them.
  12. Items found in open lockers or returned to the library administration from open lockers will be handled in accordance with point 11.
  13. In the event of suspected misuse of lockers or in emergencies, the University Library is entitled to open, inspect, and, if necessary, clear the lockers even in the absence of the user.
  14. A flat fee will be charged for clearing the locker and returning the items found, in accordance with the University Library’s schedule of costs. If the key is not returned within five working days after the clearing date, the lock will be exchanged.
  15. The costs of lock replacement are specified in the University Library’s schedule of costs and must be borne by the user.
  16. Upon exceeding the loan period, specified in point 11, the TUM University Library will block the user's library account until the outstanding locker key has been returned. Likewise, the library account will be blocked until any outstanding costs, pursuant to points 14 and 15, have been settled.
  17. The loss of a key must be reported immediately to the University Library by completing the loss report form. The form is available at the circulation desk.
  18. The University Library recommends that no valuables be stored in lockers. The University Library is not liable for loss or damage to personal items.
