With the editorial program TUM.UP-JOURNALS, TUM.University Press offers TUM members the opportunity to publish their own academic journals. You can start a new journal or transfer existing journals to TUM.University Press free of charge. The editorial program publishes journals from the entire range of subjects at TUM and for different target groups. The aim is to cover the diversity of scientific communication in the best possible way.

Services

The TUM.University Press team supports you in publishing your Diamond Open Access Journal. We provide access to the publication software OJS (Open Journal Systems), as well as article and cover templates. We help you set up your publication workflows and provide ongoing support to increase the discoverability of your journal in relevant journal indexes.

Our Offer

  • Hosting of the OJS publishing software
  • Journal set-up (basic set-up in OJS, article templates, etc.)
  • Consulting on editorial processes (checklists and support material for journal publishing)
  • Increasing visibility and discoverability (assigning an ISSN, applying to DOAJ, etc.)
  • Training sessions for the OJS publishing software
  • Support in applying for third-party funding for journal management

With the Sample Journal you have the opportunity to see how a journal can be designed and structured in cooperation with TUM.UP-JOURNALS. The publishing software we use, OJS, offers various design themes for your layout.

In the first issue of the sample journal, we present our in-house article templates, which you can adopt for your journal free of charge if you wish so.

 

Terms and Conditions

With the following set of requirements, we are able to ensure the quality of our journals and contribute to a sound Open Access practice.

Our requirements

  • The subject of the journal must be within the TUM's disciplinary scope.
  • The main editor and contractual partner is a professor at TUM.
  • Co-editors must have at least the status of doctoral candidates.
  • Editors must agree to adhere to good scientific practices according to the TUM statutes.
  • Diamond Open Access only (no costs for readers and authors)
  • Quality control through an editorial board and peer review process
  • Appointment of a journal manager
  • Operation of a journal website
  • Compliance with the formal requirements of TUM.University Press
  • Publication of at least 5 articles per year

FAQ

What are the charges for publishing a journal with TUM.University Press?

The service is free of charge. However, the main editor must be a professor at TUM.

Who is responsible for the management of submissions?

TUM.University Press provides support for the setup, technical operation and continuous improvement of the visibility of your journal. However, the editors are responsible for the management of submissions and issues as well as for the content of the journal.

Could journals be co-edited with researchers from other research institutions?

Yes, this is possible. In order to publish a journal with TUM.University Press, only one of the editors must be a member of TUM and act as the main editor. Other editors may be members of other research institutions.
