Access to Library Account

You can log in to your library account via the OPAC. There you will find:

borrowed items and return dates
requests and reservations
fees and account blocks
watch lists and saved search queries

How to log in:

Open the OPAC [1].
Log in with your TUM ID or Library Number.
In the top menu, click on “Account.”

Login & Password

Logging into the OPAC [1] and the library account differs depending on your user group:

Active TUM Members

Students, staff members, and guests with a TUMonline account use the following for login:

TUM ID + Password

If you have forgotten your password, please use the "Reset password" function [2] in TUMonline.

External Users and TUM Alumni

Private individuals, members from other universities, and TUM alumni use the following for login:

Library Number + Password

You can find your library number on the back of the library card. If you have forgotten your password, please use the "Forgot Password" function [3] in the OPAC.

A New Password is Required for External Users and TUM Alumni!
With the migration to the new library system in January 2025, existing passwords (used with library numbers) are no longer valid. When logging into the new OPAC for the first time, you must create a new password. Please use the "Forgot Password" function [3] for this purpose.

Notifications & E-Mails

Our library system automatically notifies you by email about various loan-related activities, such as:

Loan and return receipts will be sent to you electronically.
Items ordered from another branch library are ready for pickup.
Literature ordered via interlibrary loan is ready for pickup.
An item you reserved is ready for pickup.
The loan period for your borrowed items is due to expire.
Overdue items are being recalled (1st and 2nd stage of the media reclaim process [5]). Starting from the 3rd stage of the media reclaim process, you will receive written notices by certificate of postal delivery.

Please note that the University Library cannot assume responsibility for the delivery of emails. We therefore recommend checking your personal account in the OPAC [1] regularly.

Which email address is used?

Active TUM Members

Our library system uses the primary email address stored in TUMonline (e.g. @tum.de or @mytum.de). Commercial email addresses (such as @gmail.com or @gmx.de) cannot be registered. However, you can set up email forwarding in TUMonline [6].

External users and TUM alumni

Our library system uses the email address you provided when you registered at the library. Please inform us immediately if your email address changes. To do so, please contact our First Level Hotline [4].

Change of Address

It is important that we always have your current address and contact details on file. If your address has changed, please let us know. Here's what you need to do in each case:

TUM Students

Please update your address in the campus system TUMonline [7].

TUM Staff Members

Please inform the Human Resources Department (ZA2) of your address change. The updated data will then be forwarded to us automatically.

External Users and TUM Alumni

Please have your address updated in person at one of our branch libraries. Bring along your valid ID card or passport in combination with a current proof of residence in Germany ("Meldebescheinigung").
