The TUM DataTagger makes it easy to document research data. Upload data securely, use it collaboratively, and tag it with metadata – efficiently and sustainably.
What is TUM DataTagger?
The TUM DataTagger is the solution for functional research data management (RDM). The tool simplifies collaborative work in the research process at TUM. Data exchange with project partners from other institutions is simplified via the online platform, and the joint metadata assignment ensures that the data is identifiable and reusable.
It's a win-win situation: the working group's data management is easily structured, and third-party funding providers' requirements for sustainable RDM are met.
Features of TUM DataTagger:
- Metadata assignment
- Unlimited number of metadata fields
- Creation of metadata templates for standardized vocabulary
- Assignment to single files or in bulk
- Automated metadata assignment in projects and folders
- Versioning of files and associated metadata
- Resumeable upload for all file formats
- Permissions for an unlimited number of users
- Storage in the Munich Scientific Network (MWN) with at least 50 GB of tool storage per user
- Interoperability for import and export of files, including assigned metadata
- Context-based search and filtering options
- Easy access for the TUM community via Shibboleth
Conception & Development
The TUM DataTagger is an open-source software under development. The go-live of the tool is planned for the first quarter of 2025.
The functional scope and usability of the TUM DataTagger are based on the requirements of TUM researchers. The process of continuous data documentation in the research project was analyzed in intensive preliminary discussions. The use case was iteratively tested using user experience tests on the software prototype with the target group.
