Borrowing & Online Access

The University Library holds over two million books, journals, and other materials. You can borrow media, use it on site, read online, or have it scanned and delivered. A particular focus is on electronic resources, which are available around the clock on campus, at home, or on the go. In addition, interlibrary loan, scan services, and document delivery provide access to literature not part of the TUM collection. To use the services, you need a library account.

Library Account

A must-have at the University Library is a library account. Your TUM StudentCard, TUM PersonalCard, or TUM GuestCard serves as your library card. Once you receive your TUMCard, you are automatically activated for library use. External users can apply for a library card – and thus a library account – at the circulation desk.

Log in to our online catalog TUM OPAC:

  • as a TUM member with your TUM ID
  • as an external user with your library number

About the Library Account

Loan Services

You can either take library items directly from the shelves in the branch library, consult them on site, or check them out at the circulation desk. Holdings from other branch libraries or from our closed stacks can be ordered or reserved via the online catalog TUM OPAC. All orders, borrowed items, loan periods, and automatic renewals can be found in your library account.

About Loan Services

Online Access

Search the TUM OPAC or databases and read the e-media you find online on campus, at home, or on the go. To make this service possible, we use various authentication mechanisms that allow you to access electronic full texts from our collection and beyond. Interlibrary Loan

Our online catalog TUM OPAC lists more than five million titles – but not all of them are part of our collection. Books and papers that are not available at TUM or in other local libraries can be requested via interlibrary loan. Order conveniently through the TUM OPAC and receive literature from across Germany and abroad.

Scanning & Delivery

Use our in-house scan services or external document delivery for papers, book chapters, or entire books. The TUM members can use our dokumenTUM scan service free of charge. For a fee, we offer digitization on demand for copyright-free books from our collection. All branch libraries are equipped with book scanners that you can use for free – of course in compliance with applicable German copyright law.
