TUM has been recognized by Eurostat, the statistical office of the European Union, as a recognized research entity. This designation enables TUM researchers to submit a request for access authorization to confidential microdata for scientific purposes.
Eurostat provides datasets, statistics, visualizations, and other publications related to European data. The content covers a wide range of domains, including the economy and population, environment, education, health, and the labour market. The data are available in different formats and levels of detail, and a distinction is made between macrodata and microdata:
- Macrodata are aggregated statistical information and do not allow identification of individual units.
- Microdata are datasets containing confidential information. These scientific use files are made available under strict conditions to protect the anonymity of respondents.
Your Online Access
The Eurostat database is freely accessible. It includes access to macrodata and public microdata, which are especially prepared for general use.
TUM researchers who wish to access confidential microdata for a research project must submit a research proposal and obtain access authorization. If you have questions about the eligibility criteria or the application procedure, feel free to contact our First Level Hotline.
