On Tuesday, 1 August 2023, the first Bavarian FOLIO Summit of the Bavarian Library Network (German: Bibliotheksverbund Bayern, BVB) took place at the University of Regensburg. By the event's motto, "The Day of the Practitioners," approx. 130 people from about 30 libraries met to share information about the network-wide FOLIO migration progress. Besides already active members, other interested libraries and institutions were also guests.
The end of September marks the anniversary of the decision and the project launch to introduce FOLIO as the new library management system in the BVB. It will replace the current software SISIS SunRise in 2024. Library management systems control, among other things, basic electronic processes of library operations, e.g., acquisition and circulation of media.
On the morning of the event, the FOLIO project participants presented developments as well as challenges of the current project status in short presentations and pitches. The afternoon program was devoted to professional dialog and networking: First, discussions took place in the FOLIO subprojects, and then participants had the opportunity to exchange ideas in interdisciplinary groups.
This first meeting for information and knowledge sharing in person should ot have been the last one. Follow-up dates for future network-wide FOLIO Summits are aimed for.
