TUM eLabFTW is the electronic lab notebook (ELN) for TUM. With the ELN, TUM researchers can document their research in a structured, sustainable, and secure way. The web-based open source tool enables collaborative work in compliance with DFG standards.
Your access to TUM eLabFTW
In TUM eLabFTW, users are assigned to a team, such as a chair or a Collaborative Research Centre (CRC). Individual use is not intended in this ELN.
There are two ways to register for TUM eLabFTW:
- Known team: Log in at eln.ub.tum.de with your TUM ID via Shibboleth and select your team. Once your team administrator confirms your membership, you’ll be ready to use TUM eLabFTW .
- New team: A new team can be requested via the TUM eLabFTW Wiki.
What is TUM eLabFTW?
TUM eLabFTW is an ELN designed for modern, intuitive research documentation at TUM. It enables research groups to collaborate both internally and with external partners by sharing lab entries and resources. With timestamping and digital signature features, the tool ensures tamper-proof and traceable documentation. A granular permissions system allows flexible assignment of read and write access. The TUM instance of this open source tool runs as a central web service, ensuring high availability and a secure environment across various devices.
Usage Restriction
The tool must not be used to document sensitive personal data. If you need to store such data, please get in touch with eln@ub.tum.de for guidance.

Development & Operation
eLabFTW is a web-based ELN software developed by Deltablot. This open-source tool is available on GitHub and is supported by numerous academic institutions.
The TUM instance of the ELN is operated and maintained by the University Library.
