Selection Decisions for Literature Acquisition
The selection of literature to be acquired (academic books, e-books, journals, databases) is made by the subject librarians of the University Library based on the needs of TUM members.
All members of TUM have the opportunity to submit non-binding acquisition recommendations to the University Library via the literature request form.
The licensing of academic journals and databases takes place in close coordination with the TUM Schools.
Collaboration with the TUM Schools
For collaboration between the TUM Schools and the University Library according to § 24 sentence 3 GOTUM, the dean of the respective school is responsible. The dean may appoint a full-time member of TUM working at the school as the school’s library representative. Library representatives work closely with the responsible subject librarian of the University Library and with the library management.
Printed and Electronic Media
Journals are generally acquired in electronic form, while monographs are preferably purchased as e-books.
Reference Collections (Handapparate)
At TUM chairs and institutes, reference collections may be established through the purchase of literature funded from non-library resources. Through the University Library, a maximum of one copy per title per reference collection is acquired.
Disposal of Literature and Collection Maintenance
Literature purchased with TUM funds (including third-party funding) is the property of the Free State of Bavaria. If this literature is no longer required at TUM institutions, it must be offered to the University Library. The University Library processes it in accordance with the "Guidelines for the Deaccessioning, Archiving, and Preservation of Library Materials in Bavarian State Libraries".
