Responsible Bibliometrics

Info Events: DORA Compliance at TUM

How can universities and research institutions handle publication-based metrics in a fair and transparent manner to assess research performance? The San Francisco Declaration on Research Assessment (DORA), to which TUM is a signatory, contains recommendations on this.

On behalf of the TUM Board of Management, University Library's bibliometrics team has been tasked to coordinate the implementation of DORA requirements at TUM. We provide comprehensive informational materials and personal consultation, support you in reviewing your work area for DORA compliance, and assist in developing alternative approaches.

Accurately determined and appropriately utilized bibliometric indicators can help to make research performance visible and comparable within the disciplinary field, enhance publication outreach, and strengthen the reputation of both TUM and its authors.

Branch Library Weihenstephan will close early on 30.06.2023

On Friday, 30 June 2023, Brewing Technology Student Summer Party (private event) will take place at the Weihenstephan Campus, TUM School of Life Sciences in Freising.

The Branch Library Weihenstephan will therefore close early at 5 p.m.

Pilot Project Booking System

Reserve Group Study Rooms Online and Study Together

Starting from 15 June 2023, TUM students can easily book our group study rooms online: Log in to the reservation page with your TUM ID, select a group study room and time slot, enter the number of people, and submit! Your reservation will be confirmed via email.

Pilot Phase & Feedback
We are using the online booking system provided by company anny – initially for one year, to gather practical experience. In this regard, your evaluation will be valuable to us! Please find the link to our feedback form in the reservation confirmation. We are eager to hear your feedback.

Terms of Use
The following rules, among others, apply to the reservation and use of the rooms:

Reservations are only available to TUM students for groups of three or more people.
Two reservations per branch library and week, up to a maximum of 7 days in advance.
Maximum usage duration is 4 hours.
Reservation rights expire after 30 minutes if you fail to appear on time or if you are absent for more than 60 minutes after the reservation has started.

Please remember: Our house rules also apply in the group study rooms, such as consuming beverages only from tightly sealed containers and no consumption of food.

Change in Leadership

Caroline Leiß is the new University Librarian

The new University Librarian Caroline Leiß and the new Deputy University Librarian Dr. Christoph Mitschering.

On 1 June 2023, the TUM Board of Management appointed Dr. Caroline Leiß as the new director of the University Library. In September 2022, she had already taken on the role of Acting University Librarian, succeeding her predecessor Dr. Reiner Kallenborn, who retired after twenty years of dedicated service at the helm of the library. Her long-time colleague, Dr. Christoph Mitscherling, will serve as Deputy University Librarian.

Since 2011, Caroline Leiß has been heading the Information Services Department and coordinating the areas of bibliometrics as well as education and vocational training at the University Library. Christoph Mitscherling has been Head of the User Services Department since 2015. Prior to that, he worked as the Executive Assistant to the University Librarian and as Deputy Head of the Acquisitions & Cataloguing Department.

Over the past nine months, Caroline Leiß and her management team, comprised of the department heads, have immersed themselves intensively in the management of the University Library. Together with the institution’s 120 employees, they have already launched several major projects. These include migrating the library software to the open-source system FOLIO, hosting the TUM research information system, implementing the DORA principles at the university, and expanding research data services as part of the TUM Research Data Hub.

The University Library staff is delighted with the Board of Management’s decision and looks forward to continuing their successful teamwork. Congratulations to Caroline Leiß and Christoph Mitscherling on their new roles!
