Who can use eAccess?

TUM Students and Employees

All students and staff members of TUM can use eAccess to access the electronic media of the University Library. You need your TUM ID or your @tum.de email address to log in via Shibboleth (TUM's web login service).

Employees at the University Hospital Klinikum rechts der Isar (MRI)

If you are both an employee of MRI and TUM, you can use eAccess to access the electronic media of the University Library. You will need your TUM ID or your @tum.de email address to log in via Shibboleth (TUM's web login service).

If you don't have a TUM account yet, you can request one from the MRI Human Resources Department. If you are unsure about your access credentials, please contact your TUMonline user administrator.

Login is only possible with TUM ID or @tum.de email address. LRZ credentials in the format 't1234an' or your MRI account will not work.

TUM Guests

Guests at TUM, such as visiting scholars, can obtain a TUM ID for the duration of their time at the university, which entiteles them to use eAccess. To obtain a guest account please contact your hosting institution, which will request a guest ID for you from the respective TUMonline guest administrator.

Private Persons and External Library Users

Due to licensing reasons, external library users cannot use eAccess. However, you can access our licensed e-media collections at workstations in our reading rooms.

Login and Logout

We generally recommend: Before you start your search for e-media – whether in the OPAC, via DBIS or on the Internet – authenticate yourself as a TUM member via eAccess.

  1. Open eAccess in your browser at https://eaccess.tum.edu.
  2. Log in with your TUM account via Shibboleth (TUM's Web Login Service).
  3. Then select the appropriate search portal, e.g. OPAC for e-books or EZB for e-journals.

For further information about your TUM account and login details, refer to the TUM FAQ. If you encounter any issues with your account, please contact the TUM Helpdesk at it-support@tum.de.

Logout

There are two logout options:

  • automatically, if you haven't used eAccess for two hours
  • manually, by clicking on the logout button at https://eaccess.tum.edu/menu

Bookmarklet

Login via Bookmarklet

If you click on URLs of licensed e-media without authentification as a TUM member, you may be denied access or run into a paywall. To authenticate via eAccess subsequently, we provide you with a browser bookmarklet, a special bookmark tool that enables authentication by reloading the URL via eAccess.

  1. Add the bookmarklet to your browser's favorites or the bookmark toolbar. Right-click the following link to save it to your bookmarks: Reload via eAccess
  2. Every time you call up the URL of licensed content, e.g. http://dx.doi.org/10.1007/978-3-8348-2171-3, simply click on the bookmarklet.
  3. The URL will then be reloaded and you will be routed to the eAccess login page where you must enter your TUM ID or TUM e-mail address.
  4. After login you will be redirected to the original URL, in this example http://dx.doi.org.eaccess.tum.edu/10.1007/978-3-8348-2171-3, and you will gain access to TUM licensed resources without paywall.

Please note: The bookmarklet does not work with some providers, e.g. Thieme eBooks or Web of Science. In these cases, please log in to eAccess first before accessing such databases and platforms. Alternatively, you can put in the URL bar https://eaccess.tum.edu/login?url= in front of the resource URL in order to reload via eAccess.

For more information on TUM ID and login details, please visit the TUM FAQ page. If you have any problems concerning your TUM ID, please contact the TUM Helpdesk at it-support@tum.de.
