At the end of September 2022, the decision has been made: FOLIO will be introduced as the new library management system of the Bavarian Library Network (Bibliotheksverbund Bayern). There are three pilot libraries for the gradual and demand-oriented migration of the software – including us, the TUM University Library.
The library management system is the basis of library operations. It manages and controls all processes of acquisition, lending and access to media. In the search for a successor product to the currently used SISIS SunRiseIn, so-called next generation systems have been intensively tested throughout the network. The main requirements were functionality and adaptability with regard to the digital transformation in the library sector. Since the end of 2020, the open source software FOLIO has been put to the test and convinced the network's council with its modularity, openness and transparency.
Now that the decision has been made, we will pilot the introduction of FOLIO together with the University Library of Regensburg (with the involvement of the OTH Regensburg Library) and the Library of the University of Applied Sciences Schweinfurt-Würzburg. In coordination with the Head Office of the Bavarian Library Network and the Leibniz Supercomputing Center, the pilot libraries are preparing the live operation for the network libraries.
From 2024, FOLIO will be used at the TUM University Library.
