Individual Study Rooms (Carrels)

Enjoying a quiet study environment – this is what a library carrel, offers you. The individual study rooms are designated to comprehensive literature research, intensive learning or academic writing.

Availability & Equipment

The University Library has a number of carrels in selected branch libraries. The individual study rooms are lockable and can be reserved by TUM students and employees for the duration of 14 days.

Amount

Branch Library Chemistry 11 carrels
Branch Library Main Campus 15 carrels
Branch Library Medicine 12 carrels
Branch Library Physics 8 carrels
Branch Library Sport & Health Sciences 6 carrels
Branch Library Weihenstephan 13 carrels

Equipment

All carrels are equipped with table, chair, power supply and internet connection. In the carrels at Weihenstephan a whiteboard is also available.

 

Use Regulations

Who is eligible to reserve a carrel?

  • TUM students
  • TUM employees

Carrel reservations require that library use is activated for your StudentCard or PersonalCard and that you have a library number. How to register at the library

How long can I use a carrel?

  • The period of use is two weeks.
  • Carrels are only accessible during library opening hours.
  • If not used on more than three consecutive working days, the right of use ends prematurely.

Are there any costs involved when reserving a carrel?

  • The use of the carrel is free of charge.
  • Costs are incurred for carrel clearance and transponder replacement.

Interested in a carrel? – Make a reservation via webform. We will then check when the next carrel will be available for you and we will inform you about the next steps.

Reserve a carrel

Waiting list
Demand for carrels is very high, especially during exam periods. In these cases, we put your reservation request on a waiting list. As soon as a carrel becomes available for you, we will inform you immediately.
