The Technical University of Munich participates in the nationwide DEAL contract with the Wiley publishing house. The agreement offers scientists at TUM online access to all Wiley journals as well as new, extended options to publish research results open access.
The agreement now signed includes the following key elements:
- Full Reading Access
TUM members have online access to Wiley's complete portfolio of journals via eAccess. It currently contains around 1,700 journals and full texts of back volumes from 1997 onwards.
- Hybrid Open Access
As of 1 July 2019, you as an author at the TUM are entitled to publish your scientific articles in Wiley subscription journals open access. There are no personal costs for you – unless you agree on certain additional services, for which the publisher will invoice you directly.
- Gold Open Access
You can also publish in pure Open Access journals from Wiley at no personal costs. Invoices for publication costs in these journals are handled centrally by the TUM University Library.
In order to ensure that all publications can be clearly assigned to the Technical University of Munich, it is important that all TUM authors use the binding, standardised university affiliation. Please observe the requirements of the TUM Publication Guidelines for all your publication projects.
Outlook
The costs for open access publications at Wiley are covered through the TUM's annual license fees. The contract runs for three years, after which open access publishing will be invoiced according to the number of papers. Since universities with a strong publishing base, such as TUM, would then face enormous cost increases, the contractual arrangements with Wiley are open from 2022.
